out: the Olympic flame

Written by Banana PR 2010-03-21 Whistler, BC

At 8:24 PM Pacific Standard Time, the Paralympic torch was blown out and the flame has been officially passed on to Sochi, Russia to prepare for the Winter 2014 Olympics.

Vancouver and Whistler were great hosts for the Paralympics and were a benchmark for Canada pride. It was a chance for Canada to grow as a young country and unify from East to West and North to South despite long distances.

Above all, the Paralympic athletes, certainly remind us to believe and that anything really is possible.

Goodnight from Whistler! Thank you Canada.

hockey is...hockey

Written by Banana PR 2010-03-20 Vancouver, BC

We bumped into Team USA #21 Alexi Salamone from Grand Island, New York and congratulated him on his gold. The U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team won its second-ever gold medal at the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games thanks to a 2-0 shutout victory over Japan this afternoon. Team USA did not surrender a goal in all five of its games at the tournament, outscoring its opponents, 19-0.

With the victory, the U.S. becomes the first-ever team to claim its second Paralympic Winter Games sled hockey gold medal. Team USA last won gold at the 2002 Paralympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah.

And as we were all watching the NHL Vancouver Canucks and Detroit Red Wings game which held a 3-3 tie for most of the third period, Red Wing Henrik Zetterberg sent a backhand shot past Canuck goaltender Roberto Luongo as time expired in overtime to give Detroit a 4-3 win over Vancouver.

Salamone's comment on the goal with 2.0 seconds left of the game "hockey is . . . hockey". The crowd replied "Hockey is Canada's game!"

Gotta love it.
